True, Edmodo is a great tool to use for classroom workflow management. You can organize your classes, send messages, share class materials, and make learning accessible anywhere. Edmodo's real power though is in its far-reaching community. With its connection to 100 million users, it is a great place to find educators with whom to connect.
If you want to find other classes with whom to connect, you must check out Empatico. It is one of the simplest ways to connect students ages six to eleven with other classes around the world. All you need to do is select your availability, your preferred activity, and the age of your students. Empatico does the rest. They set up the connection according to your answers and provide an easy to use platform for video conferencing. They even supply lesson plans guiding your students to complete common projects that they can discuss with their new learning partners. Empatico is a great way to begin your journey in pursuing #GlobalPartnerships.
iEARN is a non-profit organization that has been connecting students through meaningful projects since 1988. Their 140-country network supports students and educators to design and implement global projects as part of their regular classroom and after-school programs. Through a safe and structured forum, students from around the world can meet and collaborate on projects that solve local and global challenges. To keep all projects aligned with iEARN's mission, each project must answer the question: "How will this project improve the quality of life on the planet?
Though Microsoft has discontinued Skype in the Classroom, they offer classroom connections through Flipgrid Gridpals. Flipgrid is a platform that harnesses short videos to inspire asynchronous learning conversations. Students share their ideas through video and receive text or video feedback to help refine those ideas. Gridpals is a Flipgrid feature that allows educators to discover other classrooms by searching for student grade, subject, or location.
